Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding took place to coincide with the ceremony of vesting to the public the 44th model village called “Santhosagama” at Siribopura in Hambantota District for the construction of 600 new houses and another 600 new houses in Southern Province under the Semata –Sevana Grama Shakthi Model Village Programme covering all the districts in Sri Lanka.
The Secretary to the Ministry of Housing and Construction, Mrs. W.K.K.Athukorala, on behalf of the Government of Sri Lanka and the High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, Mr. Taranjith Singh Sandhu representing the Government of India set their hands to this MoU.
Under this, Government of India granted a financial aid of Rs. 600 M to construct 1200 new houses in Sri Lanka.
This event was graced by Hon.Sajith Premadasa, Minister of Housing and Construction, Dilip Wedaarachchi, State Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development, Prem Kumar Nair, Consul General of India and D.Manjunayake, Advisor to the India Development Corporation.
