“Helasihagama” was declared open to Public

“Helasihagama” at Kithulkotte, Wellawaya in Monaragala district was the 48th model village made public under the New Village Reawakening Programme. This was vested in the public on 08th March 2018 with the pious hands of Hon.Sajith Premadasa, Minister of Housing and Construction.

The construction of the “Helasihagama” village which comprises 22 new houses was initiated on 26th April 2016. The National Housing Development Authority has given housing loans to beneficiaries at low interest rate to construct houses and this is also a model village constructed under the Community Participatory Housing Development Programme.

The extent of the land of “Helasihagama” village is 5 acres. Each house has a landscape of 20 perches. This village is consisted of clean drinking water, electricity, formally constructed access roads and an internal road system. The total amount invested in this village was Rs.13.49 Mn.

Following benefits were facilitated to the people by vesting the “Helasihagama” model village in the public.

  • Housing titles were given to 22 recipient families of housing.
  • Scattered housing loan cheques worth Rs.10 Million were granted to 100 low income families in the area.
  • Occupational tool kits, uniforms and subjects related text books amounted to Rs.4.6 Mn. were supplied to 100 youths in the area selected for the construction industry training under the “Shilpa Saviya” Programme and certificates were awarded to 100 trainees who completed the training.
  • Spectacles were given to individuals with visual impairments in the area.
