The majority of houses of the country’s housing stock have not been fully completed. This is especially true of housing belonging to low income earners. Residents of such houses regularly suffer from bacterial infections in addition to being plagued by fleas, ticks and other insects. As a measure to encourage these families to complete their houses cement was provided as material assistance. Under this programme launched in the year 2015 to bring un-plastered houses to finish level, 28,673 houses of low income families were renovated. Taking into account the growing popularity of this programme and the requirements of the day, the Treasury allocated Rs. 637.50 million to renovate another 75,000 houses. The NHDA provides 10 bags of cement and technical expertise and beneficiary has to procure labour and other materials including sand.
