Inaugurating the “Mihindu Niwahana” programme, the foundation stone for the new house to be built in Matara, Hakmana, Naradda area for the parents of Ven. Gangodagama Sumuditha Thero was laid today.
Granting of housing allowance cheques to 63 parents of beneficiary Bhikkus selected from Matara District for the project was also held at this event.
Under the first phase, 2,000 houses will be constructed island wide and an amount of Rs.12,000 lakhs has been allocated for that. On the instructions of the Prime Minister and the Minister in charge of Housing, Hon. Mahinda Rajapaksa, the “Mihindu Niwahana Housing Project” is being implemented by the State Ministry of Rural Housing and Construction and Building Materials Industries Promotion in collaboration with the Ministry of Buddha Sasana.
A gathering including Hon. Kanchana Wijesekera, State Minister of Ornamental Fish, Inland Fish & Prawn Farming, Fishery Harbour Development, Multi day Fishing Activities and Fish Exports, local politicians and government officials were present on the occasion.
