“Mihindu Niwahana” Housing Assistance Programme is expected to be implemented to meet the housing needs of parents who have donated their children to the Buddha Sasana, and who experience economic hardships and are without houses or own partially constructed houses.
The “Mihindu Niwahana” Steering Committee has been appointed for more successful and efficient implementation this programme, which is implemented in collaboration with the State Ministry of Rural Housing and Construction and Building Materials Industries Promotion, Ministry of Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, National Housing Development Authority, and the Department of Buddhist Affairs.
According to the demand received for this programme, a maximum of 2000 new and improved houses are expected to be constructed covering all districts of the island from the year 2021 as the initial phase. Priority will be given to Divisional Secretariats where a higher number of parents whose children have been ordained are residing.
The “Mihindu Niwahana” housing programme is expected to be implemented as a sub program of the “Obata Geyak – Ratata Hetak” housing programme implemented by this Ministry. Accordingly, it is proposed to provide financial assistance of Rs.600,000.00 for the construction of a new house and up to a maximum of Rs. 600,000.00 for the completion of a partially completed house to identified beneficiaries as recommended by the Technical Officers of the National Housing Development Authority. (In addition, a cash contribution can be made from the relevant temple as much as possible)
