National Housing Development Authority (NHDA)

The National Housing Development Authority, established by the National Housing Development Authority Act No. 17 of 1979, facilitates, stimulates and coordinates to ensure every citizen of Sri Lanka living happily in a comfortable home with the intention of realizing the “Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour” policy statement. It has also taken actions to implement the “Obata Geyak – Ratata Hetak” programme to fulfill the housing requirement of low-income earning families and has also implement Siyapatha / Sapiri Mahal Nivasa programme to provide houses for an affordable price for middle-income earners. The National Housing Development Authority, which has an approved cadre of 2164, currently has a true staff of 2000 and it has decentralized its activities to make its services more accessible to the public through its head office in Colombo 02 and 25 district offices established covering all 25 districts and 8 sub-offices in addition to 2 Colombo city offices.
