The inaugural ceremony of the “Mihindu Niwahana” project to build houses for parents who have donated their children for the Buddha Sasana was held under the patronage of Hon. Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Buddhama Rajamaha Viharaya, Siyambalanduwa, Monaragala today (07) and inaugurating this housing project, Ven. Buddhama Nandaratne Thero laid the foundation stone for the new house constructing in Buddhama area in Monaragala today with the participation of State Minister of Rural Housing and Construction and Building Materials Industries Promotion Hon. Indika Anuruddha and State Minister of Agriculture Hon. Shashindra Rajapaksa.
On the instructions of the Prime Minister and the Minister in charge of Housing, Hon. Mahinda Rajapaksa, the “Mihindu Niwahana Housing Project” is being implemented by the State Ministry of Rural Housing and Construction and Building Materials Industries Promotion in collaboration with the Ministry of Buddha Sasana.
Under the first phase, 2,000 houses will be constructed island wide and an amount of Rs.12,000 lakhs has been allocated for that. The Sannas Patra for the ‘Mihindu Niwahana’ housing project was presented by the Hon. Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa to the Most Venerable Makulewe Sri Wimala Thero, the Chief Prelate of the Sri Lanka Ramanya Maha Nikaya.
Granting of housing allowance cheques to 50 parents of beneficiary Bhikkus selected from the Uva Province for the project was also held at this event.
Most Ven. Makulewe Sri Wimala Thero, Mahanayake of the Sri Lanka Ramanya Maha Nikaya, most Ven. Dr. Medagama Dhammananda Thero, Chief Lekakadikari of the Asgiriya Chapter of the Siam Maha Nikaya, Ven. Induragare Dhammaratana Thero, Senior Professor, Department of Sanskrit Studies, University of Kelaniya and other members of the Maha Sangha were present at the occasion.
On this occasion, Governor of the Uva Province A.J.M. Muzammil, State Minister Vijitha Berugoda, Members of Parliament Kumarasiri Ratnayake and Jagath Pushpakumara, Chairman of Siyambalanduwa Pradeshiya Sabha Saman Warnakulasuriya, Secretary to the Ministry of Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs Kapila Gunawardena, Secretary to the State Ministry of Rural Housing and Construction and Building Materials Industries Promotion Keerthi Ranjith Abeygunawardena, Divisional Secretary, Siyambalanduwa, Lalith Asanka, Chairman of the National Housing Development Authority Renuka Perera, and local politicians and government officials were also present.
